COURSE CURRICULUM

The Machinist Foundation program is a 25-week intensive course designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for entry into the machinist trade. The program’s core courses total 50 credits and cover a broad range of topics vital to machining. Students begin with Safe Work Practices (4.0 credits), which emphasize workplace safety and proper handling of tools and equipment. Mathematics for Machinists (3.0 credits) provides the necessary math skills for precision work, while Interpretation of Drawings (3.0 credits) teaches students how to read and understand engineering blueprints. Layout and Measuring (6.0 credits) focuses on precise measurement techniques essential for machining accuracy. Hands-on machine operation is covered in Support Machines (6.0 credits), Lathe Operations (10.0 credits), and Mill Operations (6.0 credits), where students gain practical experience using various machinery. The program also includes Materials and Metallurgy (2.0 credits) to understand the properties of metals and Service and Maintenance (3.0 credits) for upkeep of tools and equipment. Employment Preparation (0.5 credits) readies students for job searching and professional growth. Finally, the Capstone Project (6.5 credits) allows students to apply their skills to a comprehensive, real-world machining project, consolidating their learning and preparing them for apprenticeship and career success.
