COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Technology Construction Management (BTech CM) program consists of 21 courses totaling 60 credits, divided into six key areas of study. The Construction Controls and Techniques area requires 12 credits and includes courses like Statistics for Construction Management, Construction Planning and Controls, Heavy Equipment in Construction, and Project Planning for Quality & Risk Management. Organization Management also requires 12 credits, featuring courses such as Management Skills and Applications, Finance for Construction Managers, Construction Law, and Construction Enterprise Management. The Stakeholder Engagement area has 9 credits, covering Leadership and Interpersonal Skills, Environmental Considerations in Construction, and Engagement of Project Stakeholders. Students must complete 4 credits of Management Electives, which include a wide range of options like Construction Schedule and Delay Analysis, Health and Safety in Construction, Risk Management in Design & Construction, and several technology and marketing courses. The Liberal Studies Component requires 12 credits, with 9 mandatory credits in Critical Reading and Writing, Applied Ethics, and Race, Class and Gender: Intersections, plus 3 elective credits to fulfill BCIT’s Liberal Studies policy. Lastly, the Professional Standards area demands 11 credits, including an industry-sponsored project aimed at applying specialty knowledge in real-world or research-based settings. This includes courses such as Advanced Industry Communication, Industry Collaborations, an Industry Based Project Proposal, and the Industry Based Project itself. Students must secure an industry sponsor and work closely with a faculty advisor on this project, which should incorporate innovative or exploratory elements. Together, these components provide a comprehensive education preparing graduates for effective construction management careers.
