COURSE CURRICULUM

The Ecological Restoration program is structured across four levels, each spanning approximately 15 weeks, combining core courses, field skills, applied research projects, and electives tailored to industry needs. Level 5 focuses on foundational topics such as Planning for Ecological Restoration (4 credits), Indigenous Perspectives in Natural Resource Management (3 credits), Geospatial Applications (3 credits), and Field Skills 1 (2 credits), along with electives selected based on program and industry demands. In Level 6, students advance their knowledge through courses like Critical Reading and Writing (3 credits), Biostatistics for Natural Resource Managers (4 credits), Foundations of Biology (3 credits), Field Skills 2 (2 credits), Climate and Climate Change Impact (3 credits), and Terrain and Stream Channel Assessment (4 credits), plus electives. Level 7 includes Environmental Ethics (3 credits), Terrestrial Ecosystem Restoration (4 credits), Fire and Ecosystem Management (2 credits), Wetland and Estuary Restoration (4 credits), Applied Research Project 1 (4 credits), and Research Design & Implementation (3 credits), complemented by electives. Level 8 deepens practical experience and scientific understanding with Environmental Assessment (3 credits), Conservation Biology (4 credits), Stream Assessment and Restoration (4 credits), Applied Research Project 2 (5 credits), and electives. Electives require a minimum of 6 credits and can be chosen from courses like Foundations of Chemistry, Fish & Wildlife Ecology & Management, Restoring Wildlife Populations, or Interdisciplinary RPAS Applications. Some courses, including LIBS 7001, LIBS 7002, RENR 7008, and RENR 8301, also count toward the general education component. Totaling 73 credits, the curriculum blends classroom learning, applied fieldwork, and research to prepare students with comprehensive skills in ecological restoration, environmental management, and related disciplines. Part-time students must obtain approval before registering for the Applied Research Projects, ensuring guided progression through the program.
