COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Science (BScACS) Games Development option spans Levels 5 to 8, totaling 65 credits and preparing students for careers in the gaming industry through a rigorous blend of theory and practical application. In Level 5, students build foundational knowledge with courses such as Operating Systems, Introduction to Computer Games Development, Software Engineering, Games Design Fundamentals, and Calculus for Computing. Level 6 deepens artistic and technical expertise with Art in Game Development, Advanced Algorithms and Data Structures Design, Advanced Games Architecture, Project Management, and Linear Algebra. In Level 7, the curriculum focuses on essential computing and gaming skills, including Introduction to Information and Network Security, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Games Programming Techniques, and the first Major Project, alongside critical academic skills through courses like Critical Reading and Writing and Applied Ethics (with exemptions available for certain diploma holders). The program concludes in Level 8 with Interaction Design and the second Major Project, alongside General Education electives to round out students’ academic breadth. To complement academic learning, students can undertake up to three competitive-entry co-op work terms between Levels 6 and 7, gaining valuable industry experience, with two co-op terms required for a co-op designation on the degree. This comprehensive program ensures graduates are equipped with the technical, creative, and professional skills necessary to thrive in the fast-evolving gaming sector, ready to contribute to game design, development, and production roles.
