COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Science (BScACS) program offers an advanced curriculum designed to develop skills across various computing disciplines, with a focus on applied knowledge and practical experience. At Level 5, students take courses such as Introduction to Information and Network Security, Operating Systems, Database Applications Development and Optimization, Software Engineering, and Calculus for Computing, totaling 16 credits. Level 6 includes Data Center Design, Advanced Algorithms and Data Structures Design and Analysis, Data Warehousing, Project Management (which fulfills the management component requirement), and Linear Algebra and Applications for Computing, adding another 16 credits. In Level 7, students deepen their expertise with courses like Artificial Intelligence, Database Systems Security, Data Mining and Analytics, Major Project 1, Critical Reading and Writing, and Applied Ethics. Level 8 offers Interaction Design and Major Project 2, focusing on advanced topics and culminating projects. General education electives total 9 credits and are selected based on departmental guidance, enriching students’ critical thinking and communication skills. The program also includes competitive-entry co-op work terms between Levels 6 and 7, with students required to complete at least two co-op placements to earn the co-op designation on their degree; a third co-op term is optional. Each co-op term carries 16 credits and provides valuable hands-on industry experience, helping students apply classroom learning in real-world settings and enhancing employability. Overall, the BScACS program requires 65 credits and combines rigorous coursework with practical experience to prepare graduates for diverse careers in computing.
