COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Accounting program at BCIT comprises a total of 60.0 credits, combining core business knowledge with specialized accounting training and general education requirements. The program begins with one required course, Strategic Performance Management (FMGT 8911 – 3.0 credits), providing students with an essential understanding of strategic decision-making in performance measurement. Students must then complete seven elective courses from a diverse list that includes Auditing and Assurance (4.0 credits), Advanced Accounting, Advanced Management Accounting, Advanced Auditing, Taxation of Close Corporations, Advanced Finance, Business Valuation, The Business Environment, Contemporary Issues in Accounting, and Independent Technical Studies Abroad 1 and 2, each typically worth 3.0 credits. These electives allow students to tailor their learning to areas of personal or professional interest within accounting and finance. In addition, students must complete 36.0 credits of General Education, which include two mandatory courses—Critical Reading and Writing and Applied Ethics (or an approved equivalent)—alongside 6.0 credits in Social Science or Humanities, 9.0 credits in Arts or Science, and 15.0 credits from any unspecified discipline, all aligned with BCIT’s Bachelor of Accounting General Education Requirements. For full-time domestic students, an optional Work Term offers two experiential learning opportunities through Workplace Education Workterm 1 and 2 (each 16.0 credits), providing real-world industry experience and professional development.
