COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Accounting Advanced Diploma full-time program at BCIT spans three intensive terms and is designed to provide students with the essential academic background required for entry into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP). In Term 1, students complete foundational courses including Accounting Information Systems (4.0 credits), Auditing and Assurance (4.0 credits), Corporate Finance Principles (4.0 credits), Financial Accounting 1 (5.0 credits), and Business Statistics (5.5 credits), building a strong base in technical accounting knowledge, systems, and quantitative skills. Term 2 progresses into more advanced and specialized subjects such as Managerial Accounting – Comprehensive (4.0 credits), Taxation (4.0 credits), Economics (4.0 credits), and Financial Accounting 2 (5.0 credits), focusing on developing analytical, tax planning, and strategic management skills relevant to real-world business challenges. In Term 3, students tackle higher-level content including Business Law (4.0 credits), Advanced Accounting (3.0 credits), Advanced Management Accounting (3.0 credits), and Strategic Performance Management (3.0 credits), enabling them to understand the legal and strategic context of accounting decisions in corporate environments. The total of 52.5 credits acquired through this rigorous and industry-relevant program prepares graduates to confidently transition into the CPA PEP and pursue professional accounting roles across public practice, industry, and government sectors. The program’s structure ensures that students develop not only technical proficiency but also the critical thinking and decision-making capabilities demanded of today’s accounting professionals.
