COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Decorating diploma program spans four terms, offering a comprehensive curriculum designed to build both creative and technical skills essential for success in the field. In the first term, students develop foundational knowledge with courses such as Interpersonal Relationships and Communication Skills, Colour and Light in Decorating, Principles and Elements of Design, Space Planning and Drafting, and Drawing and Sketching. These courses introduce the essential concepts of design and communication, preparing students to understand and plan interior spaces effectively. The second term focuses on practical tools and materials with courses like AutoCAD 1, History of Decorating Styles, Textiles and Furniture, Surfaces and Backgrounds, and Interior Decorating Studio 1, which combine technical drafting skills with an understanding of design history and materials. During the third term, students advance their technical abilities and presentation skills through AutoCAD 2, Window Coverings, Presentations and Illustrations, Interior Decorating Studio 2, and Professional Problem Solving. These courses emphasize real-world applications and problem-solving in interior decorating projects. The final term highlights universal and sustainable design with courses like Universal Design: Spaces for All and Sustainable Interiors, alongside business and professional development through The Business of Interior Decorating, Staging and Redesign, and the Interior Decorating Capstone Project. This last project allows students to apply their accumulated knowledge and skills in a comprehensive design assignment, preparing them for the industry. Throughout the program, students gain expertise in creating functional and beautiful spaces, working with clients, and managing projects. This curriculum equips graduates with the knowledge and practical skills needed for various careers in interior decorating, including roles as decorators, consultants, stylists, and more.
