COURSE CURRICULUM

The Legal Assistant program provides a comprehensive education to prepare students for roles in law offices, corporate legal departments, and the judicial system. The curriculum begins with foundational courses in keyboarding, legal profession introduction, document processing, litigation, and business communication, with a required minimum grade of B- in key classes. Students then advance to specialized subjects such as real estate law, criminal law, and advanced legal document processing, further developing their technical and legal skills. The program also covers corporate law, family law, wills and estates, commercial law, credit and collections, and effective communication tailored to legal settings. A crucial part of the training is the Legal Assistant Office Simulation course, which integrates theory with practical application in a realistic environment. The final term includes a field placement to provide real-world experience and prepare graduates for employment. Throughout the program, students build essential skills including accurate document preparation, understanding legal procedures, time management, confidentiality, and strong verbal and written communication, all necessary for success as a legal assistant. The program also targets a keyboarding speed of 60 words per minute by graduation to ensure efficiency in fast-paced legal environments.
