COURSE CURRICULUM

This diploma program offers a well-rounded curriculum designed to prepare students to support individuals with disabilities and promote inclusive communities. In Term 1, students gain foundational skills through courses such as Interpersonal Relationships and Communication Skills, Person Centered Planning, Introduction to Exceptionalities, English Composition, and Introduction to Disability Studies. Term 2 builds on this foundation with practical courses like Disability Work Management and Supported Employment, Mental Health and Disability, Positive Behaviour Support, and The Field of Disability Studies, alongside a study of Human Growth and Development. In Term 3, students take on more advanced topics including Challenging Behaviour and Complex Needs, Supporting Children and Adults with Disabilities across the Life Span, Family and Society Studies, and Social Policy, with the opportunity to choose from electives such as Introduction to Addictions Studies, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Developing Through Play, Trauma-Informed Practice, Workplace Writing, and Indigenous Approaches to Healing and Wellness. Term 4 focuses on leadership and community engagement with courses like Advanced Topics in Disability Studies, Community Connections and Inclusion, Organization and Administration in Human Services, and Leadership in Disability Studies, along with elective options such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Group Facilitation, Health Education, Sociology of Aging, and Indigenous Studies. With zero-textbook-cost and PLAR-eligible courses available, the program is accessible and adaptable, offering both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to prepare graduates for meaningful careers in schools, non-profits, and community organizations.
