COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Care Aide program consists of two terms designed to build both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for working in healthcare settings. In Term 1, students take courses such as Health Care Aide Role & Responsibility, The Human Body, Health & Chronic Illness, Communication & Documentation in the Health Care Environment, and Providing Person-Centred Care & Comfort. These courses total 15 credits and focus on understanding the role of a health care aide, human anatomy and common chronic illnesses, effective communication and record-keeping, and delivering compassionate care. Term 1 also includes a Clinical Placement Experience 1, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in real healthcare environments through a supervised practicum. Term 2 focuses on advanced care topics and hands-on experience with courses like Meeting Complex Care Needs and Special Activities for Clients with Various Health Conditions, each worth 5 credits. These courses prepare students to handle more challenging care situations and support clients with diverse needs. Term 2 also includes Clinical Placement Experience II and a Consolidated Clinical Placement Experience, which together provide extensive practical training in clinical settings. These placements help students develop confidence and competence in delivering quality care while working alongside healthcare professionals. Overall, the program combines classroom learning with multiple clinical experiences, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the demands of health care aide roles. The course credits total approximately 29 credits over two terms, covering both foundational knowledge and advanced practice skills essential for certification and employment.
