The Veterinary Technician Assistant Diploma Program provides comprehensive training for students to become skilled and versatile members of veterinary teams, capable of supporting veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and clinic staff in a variety of animal care settings. Students gain expertise in surgical assisting, learning to manage patient admissions, prepare surgical suites, support anesthesia, identify instruments, monitor patient care, and provide post-operative guidance. The program covers small animal health management, including nutrition, common medical conditions, parasite control, vaccine protocols, preventive care, and husbandry for exotic species and wildlife. Communication skills, client services, and career planning are emphasized, teaching students how to interact effectively with clients, manage reception areas, handle complaints, promote veterinary services, use software applications, and develop professional resumes and interview skills. Veterinary office procedures are also covered, including scheduling, medical record management, invoicing, inventory control, pet insurance promotion, and grief support during euthanasia. A three-week practicum allows students to apply their skills under veterinarian supervision in real-world settings, reinforcing technical knowledge and professional competence. Graduates of the program leave with the ability to perform essential veterinary support tasks, provide high-quality patient care, communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, and contribute meaningfully to the operation of veterinary clinics, ensuring they are career-ready in this dynamic and rewarding field.
