COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology at Algoma University requires students to complete a set of courses spread over two semesters, providing a comprehensive foundation in key IT concepts and practical skills. In the first semester, students take Introduction to Computer Science I and II, both with required labs, which build fundamental programming and problem-solving abilities. They also study Data Structures I with a lab component to deepen their understanding of data organization and manipulation, Mobile Technology: Design and Use to explore modern mobile applications, and Discrete Mathematics I to develop essential mathematical skills for computing. The second semester focuses on more advanced topics including Database Programming or Internet Tools, allowing students to choose based on their interests or career goals. Techniques of Systems Analysis provides training in evaluating and designing IT systems, while E-Business Strategy, Architecture and Design covers the integration of technology in business environments. Students also study Software Engineering and Software Engineering Project Management, which prepare them to design, develop, and manage software projects effectively. Together, these courses equip students with a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, readying them for success in the fast-evolving Information Technology field.
