COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Arts (Pre-Social Work) Degree is a two-year foundational undergraduate program consisting of 60 credits designed to prepare students for further study in social work and related social science fields. The program has a structured combination of first-year and second-year requirements across arts, sciences, and social sciences to ensure a broad academic foundation. Students complete 6 credits of first-year English, including ENGL 100, to develop essential academic writing and communication skills. In the sciences, students complete 9 credits, including at least 3 credits in mathematics, computer science, or statistics, and a minimum of 4 credits in a laboratory science to build analytical and empirical reasoning skills. A significant portion of the program, 36 credits, is dedicated to arts studies. This includes at least 6 credits in humanities beyond English, such as ANTH 160 or HIST 107 and GSWS 100, as well as at least 6 credits in social science, including PSYC 101 and PSYC 102. Students also complete additional arts credits, including SOCI 100 or SOCI 103. Furthermore, 18 credits must be completed at the second-year level across at least two subject areas, ensuring academic depth and progression. The program also includes 9 credits from arts, science, or related areas, including SOWK 201 and SOWK 202, which provide foundational knowledge in social work practice and theory.
