COURSE CURRICULUM

Acadia University’s clinical psychology graduate program is structured over two years of in-person coursework and research, designed to provide comprehensive training in both the science and practice of clinical psychology. In the first year, students take foundational courses including seminars, adult and child assessment, ethical decision-making, psychotherapy, and research design and statistics, alongside beginning their thesis work. The curriculum advances in the second term with more specialized courses in advanced assessment skills, intervention-focused psychotherapy, and continued research training, all while progressing on the thesis. The third term of the first year is dedicated primarily to thesis research. The second year shifts focus to clinical practicum and psychopathology courses, providing hands-on clinical experience and deepening understanding of mental health disorders, integrated with ongoing thesis work. Students complete their thesis in the final term of the program. This program balances rigorous academic coursework with practical clinical training and research, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for professional practice as registered clinical psychologists or for further doctoral study. The in-person format fosters close collaboration with faculty and peers, ensuring personalized mentorship and strong professional preparation.
