COURSE CURRICULUM

Acadia University’s graduate program in Mathematics and Statistics is delivered in person and structured to combine advanced coursework with focused research. In the first year, students begin work on their thesis (MATH 5960) alongside participating in the Research Seminar (MATH 5810), which fosters academic discussion and presentation skills. Each of the first two terms also includes two elective courses (MATH 5xx3), one of which is selected to support the research focus. These electives broaden the student’s theoretical and applied knowledge in mathematics or statistics, depending on their chosen path. The third term of the first year is dedicated solely to thesis research, allowing students to delve deeper into their project. In the second year, students continue with the Research Seminar (MATH 5810) and dedicate the remaining time to completing their thesis work (MATH 5960). This structure supports sustained research while maintaining academic engagement through regular seminars. The program’s flexible and personalized approach, coupled with close faculty supervision and the option to integrate co-operative education, prepares students for advanced roles in academia, industry, or further study. With a strong emphasis on real-world applications and rigorous research, the program equips graduates with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
