COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Geology at Acadia University is an in-person, research-focused program designed to develop both academic and professional expertise in the field. The program typically spans two years, beginning with a structured first year that combines advanced coursework and research. In the first term, students take two elective courses (GEOL 5xx3), participate in a graduate seminar (GEOL 5900), and begin work on their thesis (GEOL 5960). The second term continues with two more electives, a second graduate seminar (GEOL 5903), and further thesis development. The third term of the first year is dedicated entirely to thesis research, allowing students to focus on data collection, fieldwork, and analysis. The second year is devoted exclusively to the completion of the thesis (GEOL 5960), with ongoing supervision and guidance from faculty. This structure allows students to deepen their knowledge through targeted electives while dedicating significant time to original research. Small class sizes, expert mentorship, and hands-on field experience ensure a rigorous and supportive academic environment. By the end of the program, students will have developed the critical skills, research experience, and professional readiness needed for careers in geology or further academic pursuits such as doctoral studies.
