COURSE CURRICULUM

Acadia’s Master of Science in Chemistry is a two-year, in-person graduate program designed to deepen your expertise in advanced chemical research while providing a strong academic foundation through coursework and seminars. The program begins in the first term of the first year with a qualifying exam that assesses your readiness for graduate-level research, alongside an elective course and a research seminar. You will also begin working on your thesis, which is a central component throughout the program. In the second term, you will develop a detailed research proposal to guide your thesis work, continue attending research seminars, and take another elective course that complements your research interests. The third term of the first year is fully dedicated to progressing your thesis research. Moving into the second year, your time will primarily focus on research seminars and intensive thesis work. The first term of the second year involves participation in research seminars and thesis development, while the final term is devoted to completing and defending your thesis. Throughout the program, you will benefit from working closely with experienced faculty members who are active researchers in various fields of chemistry, including environmental chemistry, chemical biology, materials science, photochemistry, and photophysics. The department offers small class sizes and a collaborative atmosphere, ensuring personalized mentorship and support. You will also have access to cutting-edge research tools and facilities, including those available at the Acadia Centre for Microstructural Analysis. This program emphasizes hands-on research, enabling you to contribute original knowledge to the field while preparing for advanced careers in academia, industry, or government.
