COURSE CURRICULUM

Acadia University’s graduate program in Social and Political Thought is a two-year, in-person program designed to immerse students in interdisciplinary theoretical inquiry. In the first year, students engage in a core colloquium (SOPT 5113), critical political theory (POLS 5043), and electives taught by Social and Political Thought faculty, while concurrently working on their thesis (SOPT 5960). The second term continues with courses in social and political philosophy (PHIL 5113) and sociological theory (SOCI 5113), along with additional electives and ongoing thesis research. The third term of the first year is dedicated primarily to thesis development. The second year is focused entirely on the completion of the thesis, allowing students to delve deeply into their interdisciplinary research project. Throughout the program, students benefit from close faculty mentorship and a curriculum that bridges political thought, philosophy, sociology, and other related disciplines. This rigorous academic structure equips students with critical analytical skills and a broad theoretical foundation, preparing them for careers in academia, research, public policy, and cultural institutions.
