COURSE CURRICULUM

The 12-month Master’s program in Political Science at Acadia University offers a focused and comprehensive curriculum designed to provide in-depth knowledge and research experience. Students complete a Master’s Colloquium (POLS 5143) alongside a thesis (POLS 5960) while taking five courses, with the requirement that at least one course is taken from three of the four key subfields: Canadian Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory. Courses are held in-person, fostering direct interaction with faculty and peers. The program is structured over three terms: in the first term, students engage in the Master’s Colloquium, a research seminar within one subfield, an elective, and begin their thesis work. The second term continues with the colloquium, two research seminars in different subfields, an elective, and further thesis progress. The final term is dedicated to completing the thesis. This rigorous and well-rounded approach ensures students gain broad exposure across political science disciplines while developing specialized expertise through their thesis research. The program balances coursework and research, preparing graduates for advanced academic pursuits or careers in various professional fields related to politics and public affairs.
