COURSE CURRICULUM

Physics program at Acadia University, students build a strong foundation in physics and mathematics through a series of core courses. Required courses include PHYS 1013 and 1010L (Introductory Physics 1 with Lab) and PHYS 1023 and 1020L (Introductory Physics 2 with Lab), which introduce fundamental principles of mechanics, electricity, and magnetism. Alongside physics, students take MATH 1013 and 1010L (Introductory Calculus 1 with Lab) and MATH 1023 and 1020L (Introductory Calculus 2 with Lab), ensuring a solid mathematical base for understanding physical concepts. They also complete either MATH 1323 (Matrix Algebra) or MATH 1333 (Linear Algebra) to enhance analytical and problem-solving skills. In the second semester, students choose 6 credit-hours from science or computing courses such as CHEM 1013/1023, CHEM 1113/1123, APSC 1423/2613, or COMP 1113/1123, allowing them to explore related disciplines. Additionally, students select 9 credit-hours of electives, with 6 credit-hours in the fall and 3 in the winter, giving them the flexibility to explore interests outside of the core science curriculum. This well-rounded first year equips students with the theoretical and practical tools necessary for success in upper-level physics courses and interdisciplinary applications.
