COURSE CURRICULUM

Acadia’s Kinesiology program, students are introduced to the foundational elements of human movement and health through a mix of theoretical courses and hands-on lab experiences. Courses such as KINE 1013 (Foundations of Kinesiology) and KINE 1100 (First Aid & CPR) provide essential knowledge and practical skills. Students explore human development and performance in KINE 1213 & 1210L (Growth & Motor Development, with Lab) and gain historical context through KINE 1243 (Historical Aspects of Physical Activity & Sport in Canada). Injury prevention and management are covered in KINE 1333 & 1330L (Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, with Lab), while KINE 1413 & 1410L (Human Anatomy 1, with Lab) lays the groundwork for understanding the body’s structure. Communication skills are developed through COMM 1013 (Communication for Kinesiology), critical for professional practice. Science courses such as BIOL 1853 & 1850L and BIOL 1863 & 1860L (Applied Human Biology 1 & 2, with Labs) deepen biological understanding relevant to physical activity. Finally, MATH 1253 & 1250L (Statistics, with Lab) introduces data analysis techniques essential for evidence-based practice. This first-year curriculum builds a solid academic and practical base for further study and careers in health, sport, and rehabilitation fields.
