COURSE CURRICULUM

Women’s and Gender Studies (WGST) program at Acadia, students follow a balanced and interdisciplinary course schedule designed to build a strong foundation in gender analysis while developing critical thinking and communication skills. During the first semester, students take Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies (WGST 1413), which introduces key concepts, theories, and frameworks for understanding gender in society. They also enroll in Writing & Reading Critically 1 (ENGL 1413), helping to develop essential academic writing and analytical skills. To broaden cultural and linguistic understanding, students choose a language course (LANG xx13) and complement their studies with an introductory humanities course (HUMANITIES xx13) and an introductory science course (SCIENCE xx13), fostering an interdisciplinary approach. In the second semester, students continue to build their academic skills with Writing & Reading Critically 2 (ENGL 1423) and progress in their language studies (LANG xx23). They also take further introductory courses in humanities (HUMANITIES xx23) and science (SCIENCE xx23), promoting a well-rounded education. Additionally, students select an elective course of their choice, allowing them to tailor their studies according to their interests. This first-year curriculum equips students with a diverse and critical foundation, preparing them for more advanced Women’s and Gender Studies courses and interdisciplinary exploration.
