COURSE CURRICULUM

Sociology program at Acadia, students follow a well-rounded course schedule designed to develop critical thinking, communication skills, and a broad understanding of social sciences and humanities. During the first semester, students take a first-year sociology course (SOCI 1xxx) that introduces foundational concepts and questions about society. They also enroll in Writing & Reading Critically 1 (ENGL 1413), which focuses on developing strong writing and analytical skills essential for academic success. To complement their core studies, students choose a language course (LANG xx13) to enhance their communication abilities and cultural awareness. Additionally, they take introductory courses in the humanities (HUMANITIES xx13) and science (SCIENCE xx13), ensuring a balanced and interdisciplinary academic experience. In the second semester, students continue with another first-year sociology course (SOCI 1xxx), building on the knowledge gained in the first semester. They advance their writing and analytical skills in Writing & Reading Critically 2 (ENGL 1423). The language course continues at the next level (LANG xx23), along with further study in humanities (HUMANITIES xx23) and science (SCIENCE xx23), providing a comprehensive education that combines social inquiry with broader intellectual exploration. This curriculum prepares students for deeper sociological study and a variety of academic and professional paths.
