COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the psychology program at Acadia, students follow a structured yet flexible course plan designed to build a strong foundation in both psychology and mathematics while allowing room for personal academic interests. During the first semester, students take Introduction to Psychology 1 (PSYC 1113) along with its laboratory component (PSYC 1110L), which introduces fundamental psychological concepts and research methods. They also select a math course from options such as MATH 1253 with a lab, MATH 2233, or MATH 2213 with a lab, to support the analytical skills necessary for psychology studies. Alongside these core courses, students choose three elective courses (xxx3) based on their interests, offering flexibility to explore different fields. The second semester continues this pattern, with students enrolling in Introduction to Psychology 2 (PSYC 1123) and its lab (PSYC 1120L), deepening their understanding of psychological theories and applications. They also select another math course—MATH 2253 with a lab, MATH 2243, or MATH 2223 with a lab—further strengthening their quantitative abilities. The semester includes three more elective courses, allowing students to tailor their studies to their career goals and personal interests. This balanced approach equips first-year students with essential knowledge, skills, and flexibility to thrive in their psychology degree and beyond.
