COURSE CURRICULUM

Acadia’s mathematics and statistics program, students focus on building a strong foundation in calculus, algebra, and programming. Required courses include Introductory Calculus 1 and 2, both with labs, providing essential skills in mathematical analysis and problem-solving. Students also take Foundations and Linear Algebra courses to deepen their understanding of mathematical structures and theories. Additionally, an introductory programming course with a lab is required, which can be taken later in the program if preferred. Alongside these core courses, students have the flexibility to select 15 credit-hours of electives, allowing them to explore other areas of interest or complement their mathematical studies. These electives can be taken during the fall or winter semesters, with most courses typically offering three credit-hours each, while full-year courses provide six credit-hours. This first-year curriculum is designed to equip students with a broad mathematical toolkit and the analytical skills necessary for advanced study. It also encourages exploration and personalization of the program to suit individual career goals, whether in data analysis, actuarial science, or other fields that rely on strong quantitative skills. The balance of required courses and electives creates a versatile and comprehensive starting point for students pursuing mathematics and statistics at Acadia.
