COURSE CURRICULUM

Law and Society program at Acadia University, students are introduced to foundational concepts that explore the intersection of legal systems, society, and culture through a broad liberal arts lens. The fall semester includes courses such as Writing and Reading Critically (ENGL 1413 or 1483), Introduction to Law and Society for Majors (LAWS 1013), an introductory language course, Introduction to Law, Politics, and Government (POLS 1303), and an introductory science course. These courses build essential academic skills and begin shaping students' understanding of legal institutions, governance, and communication. In the winter semester, students continue with Writing and Reading Critically (ENGL 1423 or 1493), Introduction to Canadian Society (SOCI 1013), another language course, a second introductory science course, and an elective of their choice. Together, this combination of coursework introduces students to multidisciplinary approaches, helping them think critically about how law operates within political, social, and scientific contexts. The structure ensures a well-rounded academic experience that lays the groundwork for deeper legal and social analysis in later years while enhancing research, communication, and critical thinking skills vital for law-related careers or future studies in law, public policy, or social justice.
