COURSE CURRICULUM

French program at Acadia University, students build a strong foundation in both the French language and essential academic skills across multiple disciplines. In the first semester, students take either FRAN 1213 or FRAN 1613 (French 1), depending on their proficiency level, alongside ENGL 1413 (Writing & Reading Critically 1), an introductory humanities course, a social sciences course, and a science course. This well-rounded curriculum helps develop core communication and critical thinking abilities while encouraging interdisciplinary learning. In the second semester, students continue with either FRAN 1223 or FRAN 1623 (French 2), advancing their language skills, and take ENGL 1423 (Writing & Reading Critically 2) to further enhance their writing and analytical skills. They also continue their exploration of humanities, social sciences, and sciences with additional introductory courses in each field. This combination of language study and broad academic exposure supports students in developing fluency in French while cultivating a diverse knowledge base. It also lays the groundwork for future specialization in French literature, culture, or advanced language study. By the end of the first year, students are well-prepared for upper-level coursework and on track to function effectively in academic and professional French-speaking environments.
