COURSE CURRICULUM

Canadian Studies program at Acadia University provides a broad interdisciplinary foundation through a carefully designed mix of courses across multiple disciplines. In the first semester, students take ENGL 1x13, focusing on writing and reading critically, alongside an introductory French course (FRAN xx13), an introductory humanities course, a social sciences course, and a science course. This balanced curriculum allows students to begin developing essential academic skills while exploring Canada's cultural, historical, and social dimensions. The second semester mirrors this structure with ENGL 1x23, which builds on composition and analytical writing skills, a continuation of French with FRAN xx23, and further studies in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. This diverse range of subjects ensures students gain a well-rounded perspective on Canadian society, its development, and the various forces shaping its present and future. The inclusion of both humanities and social sciences encourages critical thinking, while science courses promote analytical and evidence-based reasoning.
