COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Primary) at Western Sydney University is a 160-credit-point postgraduate program designed to prepare graduates for professional careers as primary school teachers. The core component consists of 120 credit points and provides comprehensive training in pedagogy, curriculum design, child development, and classroom practice. Students study key areas including literacy, numeracy, science, technology, creative arts, health and physical education, and inclusive education. Subjects such as Pedagogy for Positive Learning Environments, Primary English and Literacy (1–3), and Primary Mathematics and Numeracy (1–2) ensure strong foundational teaching skills across essential learning areas. The program also includes Professional Experience 1 and 2, allowing students to gain practical classroom teaching experience in real school environments. Additional core subjects such as Creating Inclusive Classrooms further develop understanding of diversity, educational policy, and inclusive teaching practices. For students who have not completed a Bachelor of Arts (Pathway to Teaching Primary), an additional 40-credit-point core block is required. This includes subjects in diversity and social justice, Aboriginal education, educational psychology, and Human Society and its Environment, ensuring all graduates meet required professional teaching standards.
