COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) is a 200-credit-point postgraduate program designed to prepare graduates for professional teaching careers across early childhood and primary education settings. The program consists entirely of core subjects that provide comprehensive training in pedagogy, child development, curriculum design, and professional teaching practice. Students engage with a wide range of foundational areas including Creative Teaching and Learning, Children’s Learning and Development, Diverse Literacies, Inclusive Pedagogies, and Children, Families and Communities. The curriculum also develops strong knowledge in early childhood and primary education disciplines such as mathematics, literacy, science, technology, sustainability, and health through subjects like Working Mathematically, Literacy Connections, and Investigations in Science and Technology. A significant focus is placed on equity, diversity, and cultural responsiveness, including Aboriginal Education: Past, Present and Future. Leadership and reflective practice are also emphasised through subjects such as Leadership and Management and Pedagogical Leadership: Critically Reflective Practice. A key feature of the program is its extensive professional experience component, which includes structured placements across Birth–2, 3–5, and K–6 settings, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real classroom environments. Overall, the program integrates academic study with practical teaching experience to develop highly capable, reflective, and socially responsible educators ready to meet diverse learner needs in contemporary educational settings.
