COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Interpreting and Translation is a 160-credit-point postgraduate program designed to develop advanced professional skills in interpreting, translation, and intercultural communication. The program structure consists of a 20-credit-point core component and a 140-credit-point Interpreting and Translation subject pool. All students are required to complete two compulsory core subjects: Interpreting and Translation Professional Practicum (PG), which provides practical industry experience, and Preparation for NAATI Certification (PG), which prepares students for professional accreditation through the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). The remaining 140 credit points are completed through a wide range of specialised subjects that allow students to build expertise across different interpreting and translation contexts. These include Audiovisual Translation, Business Interpreting, Community and Social Services Translation, Conference Interpreting, Legal Interpreting, Medical Interpreting, Literary Translation, Specialised Translation, and Translation Technologies. Students also study areas such as intercultural communication, interpreting skills, translation research methods, language analysis, and linguistics. The flexible structure enables students to tailor their studies according to their language combination and career interests while developing strong practical and analytical skills. Overall, the program prepares graduates for professional careers in interpreting and translation across legal, medical, government, business, media, and community sectors, while also supporting eligibility for NAATI certification.
