COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Epidemiology program is structured as a 160-credit-point degree designed to provide strong training in epidemiological theory, research methods, and applied public health practice. The program is organised into core and alternate subject components, allowing students to develop both foundational knowledge and specialised expertise. The core component consists of 30 credit points and introduces essential concepts in epidemiology, including study design, disease measurement, data interpretation, and evidence-based public health practice. For students entering through specific admission pathways (Entry Pathway B and C), an additional 20 credit points of core subjects are required to ensure all students meet the necessary academic and methodological foundations before progressing to advanced study. A significant portion of the degree is made up of Alternate Subjects Group 1 and Group 2, totalling 110 credit points, which allow students to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals. These subjects may include advanced topics in disease surveillance, statistical modelling, population health research, global health, climate change and health, and big data analysis in health contexts. This flexible structure enables students to build specialist knowledge aligned with their professional aspirations. Overall, the program is designed to produce skilled epidemiologists capable of conducting high-quality research, analysing health data, and contributing to public health policy and practice at national and international levels.
