COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Engineering alternate subject component of the Master of Engineering program consists of 70 credit points, designed to provide advanced knowledge and specialised skills in sustainability, environmental management, and infrastructure resilience. Students select seven subjects from a focused set of courses that address key environmental engineering challenges faced in modern society. These include Advanced Waste Management, Building in Bushfire Prone Areas, Planning and Environmental Regulation, Sustainability and Risk Engineering (PG), Spatial Tools and Mapping, Wastewater Treatment and Recycling, Water Treatment and Distribution, and Workplace Safety and Risk Management. Together, these subjects develop a strong understanding of how engineering solutions can be used to manage natural resources, reduce environmental impact, and ensure public safety. Students learn to design and evaluate systems for water supply, wastewater treatment, and waste management while also gaining expertise in environmental planning, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. The inclusion of spatial tools and mapping enhances their ability to analyse environmental data and support decision-making in infrastructure and land-use planning. Overall, this alternate subject structure enables students to specialise in environmental engineering while building advanced technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Graduates are prepared for professional roles in environmental consulting, infrastructure development, government agencies, and industries focused on sustainability, environmental protection, and climate resilience.
