COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Creative Music Therapy program is structured as a 120-credit-point degree made up entirely of core subjects designed to build advanced professional competence in clinical music-based practice. The curriculum provides a progressive learning pathway that combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and supervised professional training. It begins with foundational subjects such as Music Therapy Foundations & Approaches, which introduce key concepts, principles, and applications of therapeutic music practice. This is followed by Music Therapy Theory & Practice 1 and Music Therapy Theory & Practice 2, which deepen understanding of clinical frameworks and evidence-based approaches used in the profession. A significant part of the program focuses on hands-on learning through Music Therapy Skills & Practice units A, B, C, and D, which are delivered on a rotating two-year cycle to ensure students gain comprehensive practical experience in different therapeutic methods and contexts. These include improvisational, re-creative, compositional, and receptive approaches to music therapy. The program also includes Music Therapy Professional Practice & Research, which develops students’ ability to integrate clinical practice with research and professional standards. Overall, the structure ensures that graduates acquire strong theoretical foundations, advanced clinical skills, and professional readiness, preparing them for ethical and effective practice as qualified music therapists in diverse healthcare, educational, and community settings.
