COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Art Therapy program is structured as a 160-credit-point program made up entirely of core subjects designed to provide comprehensive theoretical knowledge and clinical training. The curriculum follows a recommended sequence of specialised units that progressively build students’ understanding of therapeutic practice, research, and professional ethics. Early subjects such as Art Therapy: Histories, Theories, Groups and Art Therapy: Approaches and Applications introduce foundational concepts of therapeutic art practice, while Counselling Skills for the Allied Professions develops essential communication and interpersonal competencies required in clinical settings. The program also includes important contextual and cultural studies such as Indigenous Australia: History, Knowledge and Professional Practice and Theories of Difference and Diversity, ensuring graduates are equipped to work respectfully and effectively with diverse communities. Advanced units like Integrating Arts and Therapy, Clinical Studies (Art Therapy), and Further Clinical Studies (Art Therapy) provide extensive supervised clinical training and applied practice experience.
