COURSE CURRICULUM

The Juris Doctor is a 240-credit-point professional postgraduate law degree structured to provide comprehensive legal education and practical professional preparation for admission to legal practice in Australia. The program includes 170 credit points of core subjects covering all principal areas of Australian law. These compulsory units include Fundamentals of Australian Law, Criminal Law, Contracts, Professional Responsibility and Legal Ethics, Legal Analysis and Critique, Torts Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Government and Public Law, Equity and Trusts, Property Law, Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure and Arbitration, Criminal Procedure and Evidence, and related foundational legal disciplines. These core studies develop advanced legal knowledge, critical thinking, ethical understanding, and professional legal skills. In addition, students complete 70 credit points from the JD Alternate Subject Pool, which includes professional, research, and elective subjects. Students must complete at least two professional subjects, such as Technology, Innovation and the Law, Advocacy, Legal Internship, Moot Court, Family Law, and Construction Law, along with at least one research subject such as Legal Research Dissertation or Legal Research Projects. The remaining electives allow students to specialise in areas including International Human Rights Law, Intellectual Property, Migration Law, International Environmental Law, Media Law, Taxation, and Sports Law. Overall, the structure provides a balance of foundational legal training, practical experience, research capability, and specialised study, preparing graduates for diverse legal and professional careers.
