COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Speech Pathology is a 320 credit point program structured to develop students’ knowledge and clinical skills in communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. The degree consists of a 280 credit point core component that forms the foundation of professional speech pathology education. This core includes sequential study of biomedical sciences, linguistics, psychology, and health sciences, along with specialised speech pathology subjects focused on speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders in both children and adults. Students progressively develop clinical reasoning, assessment, and intervention skills through evidence-based learning and extensive practical training. A major emphasis is placed on interprofessional and ethical practice, ensuring graduates are prepared for safe and effective work within diverse healthcare environments. The program also includes structured clinical and work-integrated learning experiences, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings such as hospitals, schools, aged care facilities, and community health services. In addition to the core, students complete a 40 credit point elective component, which allows them to broaden their academic experience or deepen knowledge in complementary areas such as health sciences, psychology, or linguistics.
