COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (Sustainable Environmental Futures) is a 240 credit point program designed to develop strong scientific understanding and practical skills for addressing environmental challenges through sustainability-focused solutions. The curriculum is structured around a combination of core science subjects, advanced environmental study, and flexible elective options. In the early stages, students complete foundational science units such as Scientific Literacy, Biodiversity, Introductory Chemistry, and Management of Aquatic Environments, which build essential knowledge in biology, chemistry, and environmental systems. As the program progresses, students study key environmental science subjects including Cell Biology, Environmental Science, Climate Change Science, Ecology, and Environmental Monitoring and Assessment. These units develop analytical and technical skills for understanding ecosystems and environmental processes. In later stages, students undertake advanced and applied subjects such as Water in the Landscape, Sustainable Environments, and Science of the Anthropocene, which focus on sustainability, environmental change, and human impact on ecosystems. The program also includes experiential learning through practicum or field-based units and, in some cases, work internships for science professionals, allowing students to apply theory in real-world settings. Electives provide flexibility to broaden study across related science disciplines. Overall, the curriculum integrates scientific foundations, environmental analysis, and applied sustainability practice, preparing graduates for careers in environmental management, climate science, conservation, research, and sustainability-focused industries.
