COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychological and Social Sciences is a 240 credit point program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in psychology alongside complementary social science knowledge. The structure consists of three main components: core subjects, a minor, and a Psychology Flexible Alternate Subject Pool. The core component, worth 180 credit points, forms the main part of the degree and includes a comprehensive sequence of psychology units covering human behaviour, cognition, personality, social psychology, developmental psychology, psychological health, and research methods and statistics. These subjects build a scientific understanding of psychological principles and develop strong analytical, critical thinking, and research skills for examining human behaviour and experience. The minor component, worth 40 credit points, allows students to study an additional discipline outside psychology, such as sociology, criminology, education, or other related social science areas, broadening their academic perspective and understanding of social systems and human interaction. The remaining 20 credit points are allocated to the Psychology Flexible Alternate Subject Pool, which provides limited flexibility for students to choose additional psychology-related electives aligned with their interests or career goals. Overall, the program structure balances core psychological science training with interdisciplinary learning and limited elective choice, preparing graduates for diverse career pathways and further study in psychology, social sciences, health, education, and community-focused professions.
