COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Policing Studies is a 240 credit point program structured to provide students with a strong foundation in policing practice, criminology, and social science, supported by a flexible elective component. The core component, consisting of 200 credit points, forms the main part of the degree and includes compulsory subjects that introduce students to the principles of policing, criminal justice systems, law enforcement operations, and the social context in which policing occurs. These core units are designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of crime, community safety, ethical policing, and the role of police in a changing Australian society. Students also study criminology and social science subjects that help them analyse criminal behaviour, justice processes, and broader social issues such as diversity, inequality, and community relations. The curriculum emphasises critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and applied knowledge to prepare students for real-world policing and criminal justice environments. The remaining 40 credit points consist of an elective space, allowing students to tailor part of their degree according to personal interests or career goals. This may include exploring complementary areas such as psychology, law, sociology, or security studies.
