COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine (Honours) is a 340 credit point program structured entirely as a core curriculum, designed to ensure students develop the full range of knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competencies required for registration as a podiatric practitioner. The absence of majors, minors, or elective subjects reflects the highly specialised and professionally accredited nature of the degree, where all learning outcomes are mandated to meet industry and registration standards. Across the 340 credit points, students progress through a carefully sequenced program that begins with foundational biomedical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, and introductory podiatry concepts. Early studies also develop essential skills in communication, academic literacy, cultural capability, and understanding of the Australian healthcare system and interprofessional practice. As the program advances, students move into more specialised podiatric areas including biomechanics, gait analysis, musculoskeletal podiatry, and pre-clinical practice skills, with increasing emphasis on culturally safe and patient-centred care, including First Nations health perspectives. In the later stages, students engage in advanced clinical subjects covering podiatric medicine, chronic disease management, pharmacology, high-risk foot care, podiatric surgical principles, and rehabilitation. Extensive clinical placements in real healthcare settings allow students to apply theory to practice and develop professional confidence. The Honours component is integrated into the final stages of the degree, where students undertake supervised research focused on real-world podiatric issues.
