COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine is a 320 credit point program structured to develop students into competent, evidence-based podiatric practitioners through a carefully sequenced combination of core learning and limited elective study. The core component, worth 310 credit points, forms the foundation of the degree and includes a comprehensive range of biomedical, clinical, and professional practice subjects. In the early stages, students study foundational sciences such as anatomy, physiology, and introductory podiatry concepts, alongside communication skills, academic literacy, cultural capability, and an understanding of the Australian healthcare system and interprofessional practice. As the program progresses, students move into more specialised podiatry areas including biomechanics, musculoskeletal podiatry, gait analysis, and pre-clinical skills, with a strong emphasis on culturally responsive care and safe practice in diverse populations, including First Nations communities. In the later stages of the program, students undertake advanced clinical studies in podiatric medicine, chronic disease management, pharmacology, high-risk foot care, podiatric surgical principles, and rehabilitation, supported by extensive clinical placements in real healthcare environments. These placements enable students to apply theoretical knowledge in practice and develop professional confidence across a wide range of podiatric conditions. The elective component, worth 10 credit points, provides limited flexibility for students to explore an additional area of interest that complements their professional development. Overall, the structure ensures a strong progression from foundational knowledge to advanced clinical competence, preparing graduates for safe, effective, and professional podiatric practice.
