COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Nursing program is structured as a 240 credit point degree consisting of core nursing subjects, professional practice experiences, and a small amount of elective study designed to prepare students for registration as a registered nurse in Australia. The core component, worth 230 credit points, includes a carefully sequenced set of subjects that build knowledge and clinical competence progressively throughout the course. Students begin with foundational units such as Becoming a Professional Nurse (NURS1022), Primary Health Care in Action (NURS1017), Bioscience 1 (NURS1023), and Approaches to Professional Nursing Practice (NURS1001), which introduce essential concepts of nursing practice, human biology, and healthcare systems. Early clinical exposure is provided through Professional Practice Experience 1 and 2 (NURS1020, NURS1021), allowing students to apply classroom learning in simulated and real healthcare environments. As the program progresses, students study advanced nursing concepts including evidence-based practice, pharmacology, mental health, and health variations across acute, chronic, and complex conditions (NURS2036, NURS2040, NURS2037, NURS2038, NURS2016, NURS3015, NURS3017). Cultural competence and Indigenous health are addressed through NURS3041 Indigenous Australian Health, Wellness and Culture. Multiple Professional Practice Experience units ensure continuous clinical learning and skill development in healthcare settings. The final stages include Being a Professional Nurse or Midwife (NURS3002) and Professional Experience Placement (NURS3039), which prepare students for workforce readiness. An additional 10 credit points allow selection of a specialised elective such as mental health, ageing, or maternal health, with an extra placement currency requirement if needed for registration.
