COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of International Studies is a 240-credit-point program designed to develop students’ understanding of global politics, cultures, and international relations. The course includes 70 credit points of core subjects that build foundational knowledge in areas such as Australian politics and active citizenship, Indigenous Australian perspectives, academic English skills, Asia in the world, transnational diplomacy, intercultural communication, and international relations research. Students also complete an alternate subject such as internships, service learning, group projects, study tours, or student-led change initiatives, providing valuable experiential learning opportunities. A key component of the degree is the 80-credit-point major in Global Politics and International Relations, which focuses on global systems, diplomacy, and Australia’s role in the international arena. The program also offers 80 credit points of flexible elective space, allowing students to broaden their studies through an additional major, one or two minors, or interdisciplinary subjects. Students are strongly encouraged to undertake language studies, with options including Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, and International English, either as majors or minors. Additional Arts majors and minors are available in areas such as journalism, global business, history and political thought, peace and development studies, geography, philosophy, and Indigenous studies. This flexible structure prepares graduates for careers in diplomacy, policy, international organisations, global business, and cultural engagement.
