COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Robotics and Mechatronics at Western Sydney University is a 320-credit-point program designed to develop advanced skills in robotics, automation, and intelligent systems engineering. The degree begins with a 60-credit-point core that builds foundational knowledge in engineering principles such as mathematics, physics, computing, materials, and professional engineering practice. Students also complete 20 credit points of alternate subjects that support progression in mathematical and engineering readiness. The main 200-credit-point robotics and mechatronics major provides in-depth study of mechanical, electrical, and computer-based systems integration. Students learn key topics such as kinematics and kinetics of machines, mechanics of materials, circuit theory, digital systems, electronics, microcontrollers and PLCs, dynamics of mechanical systems, automated manufacturing, mechanical design, power and machines, instrumentation and measurement, and mechatronic design. The program also includes advanced areas such as mobile robotics and robotics systems, preparing students for emerging technologies in automation and intelligent machines. A strong emphasis is placed on hands-on learning through laboratory work, design projects, and a final-year capstone project where students apply their knowledge to solve real engineering problems. Overall, the degree equips graduates with the technical, analytical, and design skills needed for careers in robotics, automation, manufacturing systems, control engineering, and advanced technology industries.
