COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Mechanical Engineering at Western Sydney University is a 320-credit-point program designed to develop advanced technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills for careers in mechanical and manufacturing engineering. The degree includes a 60-credit-point core that builds foundational knowledge in engineering principles such as mathematics, physics, computing, and professional engineering practice. Students also complete 20 credit points of alternate subjects that support progression through the program, particularly in mathematics and engineering readiness. The main 200-credit-point mechanical engineering major focuses on developing deep expertise in mechanical systems, design, and analysis. Students study key areas including kinematics and kinetics of machines, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, dynamics of mechanical systems, mechanical design, materials selection, and thermal and fluid engineering. The curriculum also incorporates modern engineering technologies such as automated manufacturing, computer-aided engineering, computational fluid dynamics, mechatronic design, robotics, and digital design and development. A strong emphasis is placed on practical application through laboratory work, design projects, and two major final-year capstone projects that integrate theoretical knowledge with real engineering challenges.
