COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Western Sydney University is a 320-credit-point program designed to build strong foundations in engineering theory, applied science, and professional practice. The degree begins with a 60-credit-point core that introduces essential engineering knowledge, including engineering computing, physics, engineering practice, mechanics, materials engineering, and electrical fundamentals. Students also complete industrial experience in engineering, which provides early exposure to real-world engineering environments and professional work practices. The program includes 20 credit points of alternate subjects, which are primarily linked to mathematics readiness and progression through subjects such as Mathematics for Engineers Preliminary, Mathematics 1, and Mathematics 2, depending on the student’s background and academic performance. A major component of the degree is the 200-credit-point testamur major, where students specialise in a specific engineering discipline such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Construction, Advanced Manufacturing, Materials, Robotics and Mechatronics, or Sustainability Engineering. This allows students to develop in-depth technical expertise in their chosen field while maintaining strong industry relevance. The final 40 credit points consist of elective subjects, which give students flexibility to broaden their learning or pursue minors in areas such as automation, structures, geotechnical engineering, sustainability, or biomedical engineering. Overall, the program combines technical knowledge, mathematics, and practical industry experience to prepare graduates for professional engineering careers.
