COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Civil Engineering at Western Sydney University is a 320-credit-point program designed to prepare students for professional careers in civil infrastructure design, construction, and management. The structure includes a 60-credit-point core that introduces essential engineering foundations such as mathematics, physics, computing, and professional practice. Students then complete 20 credit points of alternate subjects that support progression in key technical areas, particularly mathematics and engineering readiness. The main component of the degree is the 200-credit-point civil engineering major, which develops advanced technical knowledge and practical skills across a wide range of civil engineering disciplines. Students study surveying for engineers, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, soil mechanics, pavement materials and design, structural engineering, environmental engineering, hydraulics, structural analysis, surface water hydrology, concrete and steel structures, geomechanics, and numerical methods in engineering. The program also integrates modern industry-focused subjects such as digital construction and smart and liveable cities, reflecting current trends in infrastructure and urban development. A strong emphasis is placed on applied learning through two major capstone projects, allowing students to solve complex real-world engineering problems.
