COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design and Technology is a 240-credit-point program structured to develop innovative, industry-ready designers with strong technical, creative, and problem-solving skills. The course includes 150 credit points of core subjects that cover key areas of design thinking, user experience, human-centred research, sustainability, and advanced production methods. Students explore topics such as designing for circular economy, co-design with communities, ergonomics, UX design, product form, sustainable materials, design communication, and engineering documentation. These core units also develop skills in design graphics, drawing, biomechanics in product innovation, and interdisciplinary studio practice, culminating in advanced studio-based learning through global design projects and a final capstone experience. The capstone allows students to apply their learning in areas such as virtual reality simulation, product launch, design research, industry practice, or sustainable design innovation. In addition to core studies, students complete 80 credit points of electives, which can be used to pursue a major, two minors, or a combination of university-wide subjects, including areas like design practice, Indigenous Australian studies, or technology entrepreneurship. At least two elective subjects must be at Level 3 or above, ensuring advanced skill development. This flexible structure prepares graduates for careers in product design, UX, innovation, manufacturing, and entrepreneurial ventures.
